Jacky Elizalde leads incumbent Victor Preciado by 212 votes in Pomona’s District 2 City Council race in preliminary results posted early Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
The county’s update timestamped 3:11 a.m. showed Elizalde with 1,551 votes, or 53.67%, and Preciado with 1,339 votes, or 46.33%. The count included 2,890 votes in the contest, putting Elizalde ahead by 7.34 percentage points.
The results remain preliminary and have not been certified. Additional eligible ballots will be processed and counted, and the totals can change. The figures reviewed did not specify how many District 2 ballots remained uncounted.
Preciado, first elected in 2018, sought another four years representing District 2. Elizalde challenged him for the seat after both candidates advanced from the June primary. If her lead holds through the remaining count, she would replace Preciado on the council.
Los Angeles County says it will continue around-the-clock ballot processing through Friday, Nov. 6, with multiple results updates each day throughout the week. The canvass will continue beyond those initial updates until the election is certified.
The Pomonan will update this report as the county releases additional District 2 results.
