JULIAN LUCAS

Julian Lucas, is the publisher and founder of The Pomonan. The Pomonan focuses art, especially photography, and covers the most important and immediate, environmental, and social concerns within the state.

Julian is also a fine art darkroom photographer and photojournalist. Julian is from Chicago, and grew up in Inglewood, CA, including the suburbs of Los Angeles County. Julian received a Bachelors of Art in Social Science at Portland State University, Portland, OR.

Culture is being diluted. Everyone wants the image, not the weight. Photography opened the first door for me. It showed that an image could hold truth and contradiction at once. Writing opened the next. The Pomonan came from that tension, from wanting to make something that never asked for permission, that spoke to the soul of a place and the silence that surrounds it. I never waited for a lane. I built my own, one frame, one sentence, one act of defiance at a time.
