rent stabilization

City Council Must Choose People Over Property Values

Dear Editor,

In the city of Pomona, there is a pressing issue regarding the constant rising prices of rent. The struggle that the city of Pomona is facing, regarding permanent rent stabilization greatly affects the city’s renters. While this has been an ongoing issue, the previous year, City Council paid close attention to a permanent rent cap ordinance. This not only places a huge disservice to the renters of the city of Pomona, but it also shows that the city is more focused on the property values.?

The current protections for the residents of the city of Pomona,or lack there of protection are putting these renters in high stressful situations. What the city’s renters need is stability, and having the opportunity to live without fear of their rent prices skyrocketing at an alarming rate.

This not only affects renters, but their families as well. Many of them having families that they are struggling to take care of. While many of them are left in a vulnerable state with this housing issue, they hope for a turnaround. They have the struggling to pay off their rent by relenting half of their income to the rising prices. These high costs are getting the best of many of these families.

Upon writing this letter I strongly advise that the City Council of Pomona to be the voice for courage and the city truly needs. Making a stance on permanent rent control stability can ensure that these renters in Pomona can be able to live without fear of eviction or rising prices. Pomona must advocate for all of their residents, not just those who have more resources.

Sincerely,
