Stark and Jacobsen Hold Commanding Leads in Claremont City Council Races

Preliminary returns show Claremont Mayor Jennifer Stark holding a commanding lead in her District 3 reelection bid and Anna Jacobsen leading the open District 4 race by a wide margin.

Results posted by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder at 3:11 a.m. Wednesday showed Stark leading Sonja Stump with 1,147 votes, or 64.4%, to Stump’s 633 votes, or 35.6%. Stark is seeking a third term on the City Council.

In District 4, Jacobsen led with 1,464 votes, or 59.4%. Aundre Johnson had 756 votes, or 30.7%, while Lawrence Mueller had 246 votes, or 10%.

Jacobsen led Johnson, her closest opponent, by 708 votes. If the result holds, she will replace Councilmember Jed Leano, who did not seek reelection.

Vice Mayor Ed Reece ran unopposed in District 2 and received 1,624 votes.

The results remain preliminary. Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day may be counted if they arrive within seven days. The county must also process provisional, conditional-registration and other ballots requiring additional review before completing the official canvass. California law gives county election officials until December 3 to certify the results.

The margins in both contested council races are substantial, but The Pomonan will update the totals as additional ballots are counted.
